EARTH CANDLE: ”Apart from the obvious metaphor about burning a candle both ends, twice as bright = half as long etc, this was a reaction to the desperate and collectively suicidal plans to drill at the poles for oil… and of course the climate change driven melting of both. There’s a bit of ‘time running out’ meaning in a candle image as well?”

DISNEY: ”Bit of post McLibel bravado here… a definite “Come on then, sue me for copyright infringement, and see what happens”. We actually did a bit of very popular street theatre outside a Disney store, bringing this one to life with masks and cardboard cut out sewing machines. Maybe if a cartoon can change into a bit of visual theatre it’s a sign it was a solid idea in the first place?”

P.R. GLOSS: “I loathe and despise the advertising industry, and in particular the depths to which people will sink with Public Relations, trying to defend the indefensible. How do the people willing to aid and abet this kind of loathsome deception construct a self image of themselves as ethical or honest, decent individuals? Like all my cartoons, I concentrate hard on trying to make the individuals involved squirm with self loathing, imagining they’re reading it. But like Bill Hicks said, I bet they sleep like babies… ”
